The Chamtse Ling Temple

The Tibetan Cultural Center is in the process of fund-raising for the construction of the Chamtse Ling Temple.  The temple will be situated near the open-air pavilion and lily pond at the back of the property.  Chamtse Ling is translated into "Field of Love and Compassion."   It was named by His Holiness the fourteenth Dalai Lama at the temple site consecration in 1996.

The Chamtse Ling will be an international temple which will encourage interfaith cooperation and dialogue between all people by hosting interfaith workshops, seminars, and conferences.  Programs will include all of the world's major religious traditions.  The Chamtse Ling will be a refuge for everyone who believes in and supports the goals of interfaith collaboration, acceptance, and respect among all people.

The temple will provide a residence for a small Buddhist monastic community who will provide ongoing religious instruction to the public.  The temple's main hall will house a large traditional Tibetan Altar and will be ringed by plaques of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates.

The Tibetan Cultural Center is the home of Thubten J. Norbu, elder brother of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.  Located on 90 acres in southeast Bloomington, the Tibetan Cultural Center was established in 1979 by Norbu as an outpost of Tibetan Culture.  Its purpose is to create a refuge inclusive of people of all faiths and backgrounds and to encourage awareness of the responsibility that each of us has toward establishing a peaceful world community.
